Protection and Custody of Assets
At the Boston law firm of Taylor, Ganson & Perrin, LLP, our attorneys and fiduciaries make sure that trust assets placed in our care are secure and managed according to the highest standards. Our law firm has been acting as a trustee for clients and their beneficiaries since 1935. We have established relationships with financial advisors and banks that provide custodial services to the trusts managed by us.
Our primary custodian of financial assets such as cash, stocks, and bonds, is Mellon Bank, an established wealth management institution with branches throughout the United States. Having the assets held by a bank guards against theft or other malfeasance, as banks carry insurance against this type of loss. It also separates the management of the overall trust from its custody, a strategy we believe offers clients an additional layer of asset protection. To learn more about our firm’s custodial relationship with Mellon Bank, contact an attorney at Taylor, Ganson & Perrin, LLP.
Clients can be confident that assets placed in trust with our law firm will be safe and secure.
Mellon Bank produces a periodic accounting for our trustees, reporting on the sale and purchase of the assets in each trust account. The bank has low custodial fees, preserving more of the assets for heirs and beneficiaries. The trades undertaken by Mellon Bank are conducted with the guidance of our law firm’s independent investment advisor, Eaton Vance. This independent advisor provides yet another layer of asset protection for funds in the care of our trustees.
Of course, if the creator of the trust wishes his or her assets to be held or managed at another institution, we gladly follow those instructions. Our hallmark is our flexibility and our dedication to client needs. If a client has an already-established relationship with a bank and wishes to continue that relationship during the term of the trust, our attorneys and fiduciaries use their many years of experience to work with whatever institution indicated by the client.
